![]() 100% Organic ChocolatePeople have been drinking their chocolate for centuries, initiated by the Olmecs—the oldest civilization in the Americas. Back then, the Olmecs, Mayans, and later the Aztecs roasted the cocoa bean, added spices, chilies and water to make their favorite beverage. The Spaniards who conquered Central America enjoyed the effects of the drink and introduced sugar to hot chocolate. We have the British to thank for the replacement of water for milk.Today, we know what the Ancients knew: hot chocolate is a health beverage. It's filled with vitamins (A, B1, C, D, & E), minerals (calcium, potassium, iron, and magnesium), and antioxidants like those found in tea and red wine. Combined with chocolate's phenyl-ethylamine—our favorite mood elevator—hot chocolate just may be as good for us as it tastes! At Renaissance we offer three versions of hot chocolate. All are organic. Each is a frothy, chocolatey-smooth brew of antioxidant heaven. For the true chocolate drinkers, we also feature a house-made Sipping Chocolate in our Specialty Drinks.
Cup of Hot Chocolate $3.00
Just can't get enough chocolate? Ask us about our local chocolates. We carry a line of truffles by chocolatier, Yvonne Yokota--a local treasure and a world-class chocolate wizard. Her truffles include no preservatives so they must live in a cool chocolate cellar. Please ask us to bring them out for you. Really. PLEASE ask us! We also carry an organic chocolate bar by Yvonne that we're proud to say is our very own creation. All six flavors of Klahhane Chocolate just happen to pair very well with coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.
Dark Hot Chocolate
Enjoy this dark chocolate rush of warm flavor and decadent texture from Dagoba—the organic chocolate makers in Ashland, Oregon. You'll be nourished by the chocolate, wowed by the perfect balance of bitter and sweet. The Brits elevated hot chocolate by replacing water with milk. At Renaissance a splash of organic half & half lifts it to silky perfection.
Azteca Spicy Hot Chocolate
To their rich hot chocolate, Dagoba adds spices and chili peppers for a nod to the beverage's Central American roots. You'll feel this hot chocolate warm you all over.
Hot Chocolate Mild
For those who love milk chocolate we offer this hot chocolate with a lower cocoa mass. It's slightly sweeter and mellower than our dark hot chocolate. Kids love it!
